Integrity
Elected officials, such as City and Regional Councillors, have three main duties.
The first is to be a public servant - they are employed by, and subject to, their constituents; their job is to represent our community and hold the local government accountable.
Second, a representative has a duty to act in the best interest of the city as a whole. At times this will mean doing things that are not popular, but the positive outcomes outweigh that.
Third, leaders should be honest and truthful with the public. Deceiving the public, which includes making promises that cannot be kept, hurts the public’s faith in our democracy.
Public office is not about personal enrichment or helping friends and family get plum jobs or fat contracts; it goes against the first principle completely. Individuals who use elected office to benefit themselves and those around them have forfeited their moral authority and privilege to represent their constituents.
It is my commitment as your candidate to uphold these values during the campaign, and pledge to continue to do so as your Regional Councillor if elected.
